Ma & Pa are in their late 60's, however they still manage to go to some pretty remote places... Dad's got his trusty 80 series GL Diesel .... I'm in the old HJ47...

Scott, nice to see them referred to as the parents, not just the oldies. They are older than I, but it doesn't mean much at my age. They've obviously got a lot more go at their age than I have.
If my 26 yo son referred to his parents as the oldies, I'd threaten to change his nappies...again ! After all, we're not just oldies. I know that because he gave me a hat which said
"Bank of Dad" :((((((((

I suppose it's a relative term Footy, I'm in my mid 40's, and have some of the newer grads at work refer to me as 'the old bugger' - jesus louise !!!

Yeah, Dad got into remote 4wd'ing after he turned 60. Went on a trip as a passenger up the Gunbarrel - since then he's got the bug and has managed to do almost every remote track west of the great divide since then. Covered more of remote Oz in the last few years than most people do in a lifetime.... doesn't look like slowing down either !

Yeah - think we're doing that .... just (and I'm not implying anything!!) you're not likely to get an unflattering testimonial from them :-)

They're probably fairly good as the cowboys have been fairly weeded out in this industry by now - just after any personal experience - I think Dad picked them out on the basis of the route and timing of the tagalong...

In any given group of say a dozen, you're going to get one prima donna....

Hope we avoid that here...

My friend runs a 4wd travel business in NZ but I couldn't stand some of the people who go on 4wd tours, so I'd make a poor tour operator.
The friend was despertae for a guide last Xmas, and asked me but I had to knock him back. It would have been a case of the blind leading the blind.
"Where are we now?"
"Oh...somewhere between South America and Australia. " :))))))))

Yes. It was with Pete as you may know. It was a very odd situation. We met up with the rest of the group at Derba Springs and Wiluna. At Derba Springs most of the group came and spoke to us individually. As I said we got on with most of them very well. It was a very oppressive feeling while we were travelling with them so we left. We did say to Pete that if we couldn't cope in the group we would go our own way up front. We then travelled with most of the rest of the group along the Gun Barrel. The whole thing was completely different. They were chatty on the radio and a couple of people who had only spoken a few words in the first few days had a really good sence of humor. They were a pleasure to travel with. We asked them if things were similar after we left but apparently things didn't change. It is very sad as it should have been a great trip for everyone involved. I suspect that if they had the confidence to travel alone the whole thing would have flown apart. I really like Pete, he is a great bloke but I would never do another tag-a-long. Tag-a-longs have there place and I think they are a brilliant idea but they don't suit everyone. I suppose we have travelled too much alone and are self sufficient. Low idiot tolerance is probably also an issue.

thanks Eric, did a bit of a search on here - a few people have said good things about their Cape York tours...

Ted has seen quite a few summers himself so probably ideal for the oldies to travel with. Like Eric I see them from time to time on the Cape and all his people seem content. May be just a coincidence but I notice they generally have an older generation clientel. BTW talkin' about oldies ;-) How are you going Eric haven't bumped into you for a while.

Peter, would love to meet up .... our timetable is ex-Alice 23 Sep and head west to Rudall, then south to Newman - Carnegie - Well something and something down to Emu, and then East to Coober Pedy by mid October. After that on our own probably back via Strzelecki t5o Cameron's corner and then east...
